Lift Top Coffee Table, Anyone?

Coffee tables are the darlings of a living room. Not only do they add beauty and style to a home, they also serve a lot of purpose to its owner. Yet often times, they are also the most overlooked of the pieces. Especially when you are on a budget, coffee tables almost always takes the blunt and most people settle on cheap, mediocre ones.

The demand for a more functional coffee table arises as more and more people are making use of their living room not only for entertaining guests but also for working. With a traditional, large coffee table, you have to bend over when working with your laptop or doing paper work. This can cause back pains and may divert your concentration on working.

One solution to this is to have a lift top coffee table that can be easily converted into a working table. You can easily switch back and forth from a ‘traditional’ coffee table into a working table within seconds! The addition of a lift top coffee table alone essentially converts your living room into a home office.

Large coffee tables can easily take up most of your living room space and adding another table for work can make your living room ugly pretty fast. This is embarrassing especially if you have surprise guests coming over and you’ll be moving the extra table a lot. This is not only very tedious, but can have detrimental effect on your flooring.

There are several kinds of lift top coffee table available that varies in style, design and materials used. Here is a list of the most common ones:

Solid Wood Lift Top Coffee Tables – Oak, Pine and Mahogany are the common materials used. The wood grain design of oak is especially suited for blending with most wall paper designs. Wood coffee tables are often heavier and bulkier than most of the others and is especially a great choice if you have energetic kids running around your house.

Glass Coffee Tables – Glass Coffee table are often combined with wood, chrome and wrought iron for that contemporary effect. Glass gives the impression of being elegant and classy. Yet, if you have children running about your house, or clumsy people within your range then a wood coffee table is a much better alternative.

Noguchi Coffee Tables – The classic Noguchi is made by the famed Japanese designer Isamu Noguchi that brought sculpture to its design. This design incorporates a wood base and is mounted by a glass top. Noguchi designs are so popular that it has been the favorite coffee table of imitators.

There are still a lot of variants available that can go well visually with any type of sofa or living room. A lot of the design can fool the untrained eye to see an ordinary coffee table instead of a lift top.

Most of the lift top coffee tables have drawers or compartments that can be used to place books, magazines, or any of your stuff that you normally see scattered on your living room.
